Booking an Appintment and FAQs. Budda

Contacting a counsellor or psychotherapist for the first time can be daunting, that is why from our first contact I aim to provide an approachable, safe and non-judgemental space for you to start exploring your difficulties.

We will have an initial telephone conversation so I can understand why you would like to see me and we can discuss any questions you may have. We then find a time for our initial session and thereafter ongoing sessions.

All enquiries, whether by telephone or email, are strictly confidential.

I can be contacted by phone: 07591 662721
If you get my answerphone – please leave a message.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I pay?

You can pay for your sessions by cash or cheque during the session. Or if you prefer to pay by bank transfer we can come to an agreement on whether that is weekly or monthly.

How long and how often are the sessions?

Sessions are 50 minutes and are weekly. Unless otherwise agreed your session will be on the same day and at the same time each week.

What if I need to cancel a session?

If you need to cancel a session and you give me a week’s notice then there is no charge for the missed session. If you need to cancel at shorter notice than a week then I will do my best to try to fit you in another time that week. If that is not possible then I will have to charge you for the missed session.

Paying for a missed session because you are ill or you got stuck in traffic etc may seem unfair. However, in order to provide this service I allocate clients a particular day and time. That is then your time I hold for you. I balance my work load on the understanding that you will attend sessions. If non-attendance become a regular occurrence we will discuss what is going on for you and why you are missing sessions.

What about missed sessions because I am going on holiday?

Just let me know at least one week in advance and then have a great holiday! If you are planning to be away for more than 3 weeks please give me as much notice as possible.

Is everything I say confidential?

Everything that is discussed during our sessions remains confidential between us. I maintain confidentiality in accordance with the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) Ethical Principles and Code of Professional Conduct

I have a professional requirement to take my clinical work to supervision on a regular basis. I may take your case to supervision but any discussion remains anonymous at all times and supervisors abide by the same ethical framework.

Exceptions to Confidentiality

I retain the right, and I am ethically bound, to break confidentiality without prior consultation should I consider the urgency of the situation requires me to act immediately to safeguard the physical safety of yourself or others. I would first endeavour to discuss with you my decision to break confidentiality however this may not always be possible. Depending on the circumstances I may need to contact your Doctor, a social worker, police or other emergency services.

How do I know how many sessions I need?

I am often asked this question and there is no definitive answer. It depends entirely on the individual and there is no right or wrong amount of time. I work with clients that come for a few sessions through to clients that I have been working with for 4 - 5 years. What you want and get from therapy changes over time and as long as you still feel you are gaining from the sessions why wouldn't you continue doing this amazing thing for yourself.

What happens when I want to finish?

When you feel it is the right time to finish please let me know during our session so we can work towards the ending. Or if you feel that therapy is not right for you right now, or I’m not the right therapist for you then I would encourage you to let me know and that we work towards ending. For some I know this might be difficult however there is a lot to be learnt about ourselves by how we end things and this is why such importance is placed on endings in therapy.

Will you keep any personal data on me?

I comply with the current Data Protection 2018 guidelines and am a registered Data Controller with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO). Registration number ZA391759. I hold minimum data on clients. Emails and text messages are deleted after reading. No data is forwarded to other parties. I make client notes, short summaries about what happened in the session, these too are kept within Data Protection guidelines and are destroyed when no longer required.
